How to grow your intuition

Growing your intuition is one of the highlights of spiritual growth. With it comes connecting to the divine, your spirit guides, your higher self, noticing things you otherwise wouldn’t have, sensing people’s energy (and intentions) and more! It’s also one of the most sought after questions (next to how do you meditate) for those becoming conscious of their spiritual nature.

In this post, I’ll be providing several practices that’ll help grow your intuition, other than meditation.

What Growing Your Intuition Really Means

Growing your intuition is simply raising your level of awareness. This means your overall level of awareness - physical, emotional and beyond. The reason this is important is because when you receive guidance, you don’t necessarily receive it the same way every single time. Perhaps you have a particular way of consciously communicating with your spirit guides, but they may also guide you in other ways, especially when you’re not conscious of it. Here are a few examples of the different types of awareness to highlight why they’re all needed:

  • You feel nauseous when visiting a place which signals that there may be dark energies present

  • You get a song stuck in your head which could’ve been sent by your guides with a message within the lyrics

  • You feel a dull, dead-end type of feeling when considering a particular job or major for college

We are guided every single day, most people completely oblivious to it. So much of what we do we think is either random or our own choice but actually isn’t.

5 methods to grow your intuition

Let’s not waste any time and jump straight to several methods that you can incorporate in your life that will help you grow your intuition by raising your awareness. You don’t have to do all of these, and some may work better for you than others. Keep in mind to give yourself time to grow, be happy when noticing your increased level of awareness, and have fun with it!

  1. Stop and Evaluate How You Feel

Every single day, stop, evaluate, and write down how you feel emotionally and physically. Do this 2-3 times a day and go into great detail. Use all six senses. You can include your surroundings, topics that are making you feel a certain way, anything. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. The more you practice this, the more you notice, and soon you’ll notice things prior to doing this practice.

  2. get out of your head

Getting out of your head creates the space for your intuition to pick up what it needs to. Sometimes you may not receive anything in that moment but you will a few hours or days later. Most people recommend meditation but I also suggest doing an activity that gets you ‘in the zone’ but is simultaneously calming (sorry, no video games, movies, books, or music with lyrics!). This could be anything from coloring, sketching, prepping food, gardening, etc. The activity needs your focus just enough to take you away from loud and intrusive thoughts. Scheduling this on a consistent basis will let your spirit guides know when you’re easiest to connect with during waking hours.

  3. double take on decision making

When making small decisions where you have multiple options, take a pause and use your heart to decide. Let your inner guidance make the decision for you. You can do this buy considering the first option and feel if your heart space feels dull or lightly elated and expanded. If it’s dull, it’s a no. If it’s lightly elated, it’s a yes. Do this with each option to see which makes your heart feel the most expanded. If you use reasoning in this (e.g. purchasing the outfit you think others will think looks best on you), you’ve gone back to your head. This is a fun exercise to do with food!

  4. fake news

This exercise is similar to #3 except you’ll expand on it over time. Look at a news headline (only the headline!) and sense whether it’s true, partially true, or an outright lie. Most news, especially from major media outlets are outright lies or partially true. Which do you feel it is? After a few practices, try sensing what the truth really is. I suggest to find headlines from a media outlet you’ve not heard of to avoid bias since that will trigger a defense mechanism in most people.

  5. ufo watching

One of my favorites but a bit harder to do if you don’t have easy and close access to clear skies at night, and great for night owl! Find a place where you can be outside at night, with clear skies and away from light pollution so you can see all the stars; then simply look for UFOs. They are out there (I’ve always been able to spot them)! When you do see them, there will be a clear distinction between airplanes and UFOs based on their speed and maneuvering. Satellites can be visible just after sunset or just before sunrise when the sun reflects off their panels so I advise going much later. How in the world does this help with awareness? It forces you to look for and spot the details, and makes you aware of your surroundings in an atypical way.

I want to conclude this post by reminding you that raising your awareness and growing your intuition takes time. There are numerous other factors that could influence your level of growth, such as lessons to learn, cells upgrading to accommodate new higher frequencies, the beliefs you hold and more.
